This week’s  Trivia game at World of Beer-SMU was a bit of a surprise to its regulars.  Their beloved host, Marc, was under the weather and so the Back Up Host Alarm System was activated.  Thus began the first ever Sparkle Ponies Invasion of your regularly scheduled Trivia game!

It’s funny how people just couldn’t help but comment, “Hey, you’re not Marc!”  Why, yes, I do in fact look and sound very different from Marc, but I was trained as a game hostess by the best.  And besides,  I had my Lovely Assistant (and fellow Sparkle Pony), Frank with me.  What could go wrong? 

Thankfully, Nothing!  Although I have been hosting Bottlecap Bingo now for almost two months, this was my very first time to host a Trivia game without any training wheels.  I’m not gonna lie.  I was a bundle of nerves when I walked into WOB-SMU last night.  But the crowd of regulars and newcomers alike were patient and welcoming to this former competitor.  And in the end, I Didn’t Die!!!!! 

But enough about me, I’m betting you want to know how the actual Games went!  I’ll tell ya, it was a tough pair of games last night.  Game One pointed out that we had a lot of Friends fans in the crowd and we all learned a bit about Russia that we didn’t know.  The whole game there were several ties for 2^nd and 3^rd place, but by round 3 of Game One Guidonian Hands won 1^st, and we had to play a tie breaker round for 2^nd place.  Kinematic All Stars turned out to know more about whiskey than Los Pollos Hermanos and so they won that 2^nd prize.

There were some tough moments in Game One, but Game Two was even tougher.  Several of our regular star teams were stumped.  I think my favorite answers of the night came from this round.  Those favorite moments involved answers like:

•       “I’m too young to know that”
•       Bonus question of Name something you cut with scissors (The teams apparently had a theme here)
  • Foreskin

  • Skin

  • Jewish infant’s penis

  • Fallopian tubes

Game Two continued to see several ties for all of the placings in the game, but Guidonian Hands won 1^st prize again and for a second time in the evening we had to run a tie breaker question for 2^nd place.  This time it was Hokies against Los Pollos Hermanos.  I have to say that it filled me with glee that not only did these gentlemen know their stuff when it comes to pre-2013 Disney Princesses, but they tied the tie breaker and I had to adjust the questions to include even the newest princesses.  It turns out that Hokies triumphed by knowing just one more Disney Princess than Los Pollos Hermanos.  Witnessing two teams of grown men agonizing over Disney Princesses was the best end of a first Trivia game I could have ever imagined!
