Some are born great. 

Some achieve greatness. 

Some have greatness thrust upon them... And the rest of us come to trivia nights while the universe figures itself out.

The night consisted of 5 teams loitering at the makeshift temple of Lofn, Norse Goddess of Games, with plenty of confidence and despair. While the room was full of veterans, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dragon D’s into the fold. Hopefully their therapy bill will not be too high. 

Hope being the extant elixir of these nights, the teams fought valiantly the punches of each round. Amongst the convalescent, J2 Square kept their spirits up by hollering “Almost there!”, each time they got a question wrong. It was endearing to say the least. 

Round two shook the foundations with a few hard to crack questions, the most interesting being

Which North American tribe includes 3 major divisions: Santee, the Yankton-Yanktonai and the Lakota?

I was impressed at the ratio of people who knew this answer. Well done. 

However, the entirety of our fourth round took its gloves off, slapped all teams, and challenged them to a duel at dawn. Of all 5 questions, the one that went unanswered was 

This Saturday will mark the 100th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife in Sarajevo, an event that is considered to have started World War 1. What was the first name of the Archduke's wife?

Yet we trudged on through this haphazard route of questioning, and by the end of the night all teams not only were done with the game as well as each other, they also believed me to have the motherly instinct of a dyspeptic porcupine. 

The scoreboard was not quite in shambles, but it tried its best. Bringing the rear, J2 Squared ended the night with 18 points. In 4th place Dragon D’s amassed 19 points. Tres Amigos (also known as Putin on the Blitz with a plus 1) landed in 3rd place with 33 points. Hit and Quiz It came in 2nd place and won the first ever Flight of Beer that will be our second place prize from now onward, and The DMZ  took first place with 41 points out of a 52 total. 

Looking forward to seeing you all again next Tuesday, at 7pm, for another round of “I am not drunk enough for this.”
