I'm biased, of course, but I think Hayters is an excellent venue for trivia. It's intimate (but not small), we get to be outdoors for most of the year, and we're right next door to a Texas Monthly top-50 BBQ joint, Hurtado's.
Amid all that post oak and pecan wood smoke, most teams are newcomers — they show up for Cue and generally stay for the trivia. Over time, though, we've developed a lovely coterie of regulars who are #SeriousBusiness about their trivia. Tonight was, largely, a battle of the regulars.
Round 1 closed with The Ripcords (newcomers) victorious, up two points over a crowded middle of the pack. Three teams vied for the Round 2 dub; The Fishticks (regulars) claimed victory in the tie-breaker.
Ready for war, Nic and the Cages (regulars) battled it out with Fantastic 4 (also regulars) in a Round 3 tie-breaker; the Cages came out on top. Round 4 fell to the Horns (newcomers), up four points on the second place finisher.
We finished Round 5 in a five way tie; the Cages, Fantastic 4, The Fishticks, Bad & Boozy (Minus One) (newcomers) and 2 Kids & 2 Adults (regulars) pulled numbers from the sky to answer, "According to Zillow, what is the average price of a home in the DFW?". Fantastic 4 came out on top, guessing closest to the correct answer, $377,186. It was smooth sailing for the Four from there — they swept the final round nabbing their second win of the night.
Thank you to all 11 teams, regulars and newcomers alike, for coming out tonight. Congratulations to all of the week's winners:
