Yet again, when the cat's away, the mouse will play. Or well, maybe in this case it's when the bull is away the Sparkle Ponies will play. Marc was off filling in for another host tonight, so I, along with my lovely assistant Frank, took over for him at World of Beer - SMU. It's always fun to play trivia at WOB - SMU. It's like home. And I Always have a great time!!!!
This week the game was nearly All brand new teams! Guidonian Hands and Kinematic All Stars were our resident regulars, but all the other teams were new. We even had a large party split into two teams and go head to head against each other. That was a lot of fun!
In Game 1 Round 1, we learned that nearly all of the players were Family Guy fans. And they may not have known anything about asteroid belt names, but they still got the answer right because in this day and age everyone knows that if you need information, you go to Wikipedia. Round 2 was the round of the tongue tied questions. And Round 3 was a whole lot of fun! Law & Beer Orders were apparently expecting more sports questions, so they got Super Excited when I finally called one. Our Star Wars geeks realized they might not be quite as geeky as they thought because that was seriously an obscure question. And although “OH SHIT!” isn’t the correct answer for the name of the group who sang Snoopy’s Christmas, it pretty much summed up the feelings of the entire crowd, so thanks for yelling that one out!
In Round 3 of each game, we typically have a Survey or Pulse question. This week, Game 1 asked teams to “name something you hold that feels good.” You can imagine the range of answers that were submitted. I don’t normally do this, but just for fun, I’m going to list those answers in all their glory. Starting light and progressing to the overlying theme of the evening:

We didn’t have a tie for 1st or 2nd this time in Game 1. Those honors went to Guidonian Hands and new team Law & Beer Orders, respectively, but we still threw a tie breaker question out there for 4th place because rival teams Ramrod & Ray Finkle Tinkle Winkle had a round of shots on the line.
Game 2 was a much harder game. In Round 1, ladies in the crowd were a great minority and that cost nearly every team a point. One lonely team knew that Barbie had a sister named Skipper. We also learned about walrus ivory and that a spouse of a once Prime Minister of Canada was quite the party animal in her day. Round 2 was all about Stars and we found out that a good portion of the crowd must have been Boy Scouts. Round 3 revealed the crowd’s knowledge of bludgeoning weapons and 90’s basketball - specifically Law & Beer Order who wrote a love letter to their Karl Malone knowledge in the margins of their answer sheet. Most teams turned out to be Sopranos fans, but beer measurements and Turtle identification were trouble spots. And a shout out to team Ramrod who began to feel game fatigue and just made up answers - at least one of which I am not supposed to say on mic. 1st prize in Game 2 was won, again, by Guidonian Hands. Second prize was decided by a tie breaker. New team Miller won the tiebreaker by just a hair over Kinematic All Stars.
It was a great night! I know you all missed Marc, but he’ll be back next week.
