Tuesday night at Cowtown Brewing Co. delivered everything DFW has come to expect from PubGuys Trivia: ice-cold beer, a packed house, Outpost 36 BBQ serving up irresistible plates, and one raucous room full of quick-thinking, competitive trivia lovers. As The Angry Irishman, I had the honor of hosting one crazy game—six rounds, bonus questions, and nonstop energy from a crowd that came ready to play.
Rounds 1 & 2: Early Leaders Take Shape
The game opened with Jerk Store firing fast, dropping a strong 7 points in Round 1 to take the early lead. Just the 2 of Us and Hot Tequila stayed close behind with 6 and 5 points apiece, while Mr. Poopicus, No Folk and Chance, Pineapple, and The Waterboys clustered tightly in the middle of the pack.
By Round 2, the leaderboard shifted dramatically. The Waterboys stormed ahead with a massive 9-point round, instantly changing the momentum of the game and launching themselves into contention. No Folk and Chance and Hot Tequila also bounced up with solid 6-point second rounds. Meanwhile, earlier front-runner Jerk Store posted a more modest 4 points, tightening the field and signaling this would be a night of swings.
The brewery buzzed as teams refreshed drinks, grabbed brisket and sausage plates, and prepared for the next stretch—because at Cowtown, no lead is ever safe.
Rounds 3 & 4: The Mid-Game Shuffle
Round 3 brought consistency across the board, with nearly every team scoring 5. This round didn’t create separation—it reinforced how evenly matched the field was. From Pineapple to Trivia Newton John, everyone stayed within striking distance, and the energy in the room was electric.
Round 4, however, brought another shake-up. Hot Tequila tied for the high score of the round with 6 points, keeping themselves firmly in the hunt. Mr. Poopicus, Jerk Store, and Just the 2 of Us all landed at 4 or 5 points, refusing to give an inch. No Folk and Chance, with another 4-point round, stayed level and dangerous. The crowd could feel it—this game was heading toward a tight finish.
Round 5 & Final Round 6: The Race to the Finish
Round 5 blew the game wide open. Mr. Poopicus erupted for 7 points, while Jerk Store answered back with 9, setting up a nail-biter finish between the night’s fiercest competitors. Just the 2 of Us and No Folk and Chance also put up 9 and 7, making the scoreboard a battlefield going into the final round.
Then came Round 6—the make-or-break moment. Mr. Poopicus delivered a dominating 10-point performance, the strongest round of the entire night. Hot Tequila and Pineapple stayed alive with 8 and 5, but the top spot was slipping away. Jerk Store, needing a big finish, put up 6 points—solid, but not enough to catch the charging Poopicus squad.
With bonus points added in, the standings were set: Mr. Poopicus finished at 40 points, narrowly holding off the always-dangerous Jerk Store at 39. Hot Tequila and No Folk and Chance tied at 36, but since they were not in prize position, no tiebreaker was required.
It was a night of cheers, groans, laughter, competition, and community—the kind of trivia magic that keeps Cowtown Brewing Co. packed every Tuesday.
