Once again I subbed for Brett (The Angry Irishman) as his car did not fare well in the flooded streets. His misfortune was my good luck as this was the best night I have had hosting trivia.

Kyle and Addie, the wonderful bar staff at CTSL, said the place was dead until about 6 pm when the patrons started pouring in. I guess being under house arrest all day during the deluge made people thirsty and hankering for some trivia. We had a great crowd, with several people just hanging out and not playing trivia.

We started the evening with five teams: Asked and Answered, Septemberfest, Friends of Snap, The bar staff played under "You're Never Drinking Alone When There Are Kids in the Car," and my favorite team name - Weenie Hut Seniors. Asked and Answered and Friends of Snap were tied for the lead for the first few rounds with Septemberfest hot on their heels usually only one or two points back. Weenie Hut Seniors played an interesting strategy. They purposefully stayed back several points, waiting for the other teams to tire out so they could pounce at the end. Unfortunately for them the tiring never occurred - likely due to the steady supply of delicious beverages served up by the staff.

The only sneaking that occurred was by the bar staff (You're Never Drinking Alone...). They pulled into the lead after round 5 and eeked out a one point victory after 6. Yes, because they were ineligible (likely due to performance-enhancing drungs), Friends of Snap received the gift certificate with a five point lead over Septemberfest and six points over Asked and Answered. Weenie Hut Seniors were good sports. I hope they return armed with a bigger and more diverse team (read women).

I had so much fun that my usual promise to finish by 8:30 was hollow this time as we went about 20 minutes past my goal. I apologize to those of you who were wanting to leave earlier. Selfishly, I was enjoying the evening and had no problem enjoying my beverage and the laughs a bit longer.

I hope to see everyone again soon, but not at Brett's expense. My preference is to spell him when he needs a break. Enjoy the week and the drought-busting rain!

Dan
